SOA Event Plug: Think Pink!
Basketball Team to Raise Money for Breast Cancer Research
The Think Pink Charity Basketball Game is an initiative
to bring breast cancer awareness and unity in the Morrow community.
Last year, Coach Yolanda Jenkins and the Morrow High
School Women’s basketball team raised over $1000 for the Coach Kay Yow Fund
with the help of her team and people in the community. She hosted the Think
Pink Community Health Fair which featured local businesses and government professionals
coming together to provide health and safety information to the community.
This year, Coach Jenkins and the women’s basketball team
hope to raise more money for breast cancer research and even more awareness of
the Kay Yow Fund. “Last year, we did a great job organizing the community and
the school to be a part of this initiative. This year, we hope to do it bigger,
better, and pinker,” states Shawntel Asemota, former student and local business
woman.
The Think Pink Charity Basketball game will be hosted by
the Morrow High School Women’s Basketball team on Friday, January 21, 2011 at
7PM. Coach Jenkins encourages the community to come out, get involved, and
donate to the Coach Kay Yow Fund on their behalf. For donation information
please contact Shawntel Asemota at Shawntel@soaeventconcepts.com or visit the event site at thinkpink2011.eventbrite.com
The Coach Kay Yow Fund and WBCA Pink Zone initiative is a
global, unified effort for the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s nation
of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across
campuses, in communities and beyond.

Crave Atlanta Tweet Up
Recently, I started following this group called CraveAtlanta. I had heard about them through a friend and after seeing their sassy style of connecting people, decided it was probably a win to be following them as well.
Today they tweeted about a meet-up taking place next week so I figured I'd share it with my unemployed and entrepreneur friends in need of a new networking opportunity. Depending on my schedule, I myself might be there. I've been neglecting my networking opportunities lately so this is a definite possibility.
Networking is a definite key in getting your business...business and interacting with potential mentors, clients, and friends. (More on this later) So what do we have to lose?
WHAT: Social Media Atlanta CRAVE Tweet Up

SOA Event Plug: The 2nd Annual Morrow Community Fall Festival
“Unifying for a Purpose”
MORROW, GA –October 2, 2010- With an attendance of over 2,000 in 2009, the Morrow Fall Festival Planning Committee is pleased to announce the 2nd Annual Morrow Community Fall Festival. This is a family oriented, cultural and educational event established to unify Morrow Middle & Morrow High Schools. It will take place on Saturday, October 2, 2010 from 10am to 3pm in the parking lots of Morrow High School located at the corner of Maddox Road & Old Rex Morrow Road in Morrow, Georgia. Admission is FREE to the public!
It is the first of its kind in Clayton County where the parents and students have taken the lead by volunteering their time to bring about unity among the students, families, faculty/staff, and the community of Morrow Middle & Morrow High Schools.
“It is our goal to raise funds for the academic programs and auxiliary groups of both schools as well as establish and/or re-establish joint venture partnerships between the local businesses, the community, and both schools.” -Valencia Stovall & Sharon Daniel, Festival Founders
This event fosters the true meaning of “it takes a village to raise a child”. During the major turmoil of the Clayton County School System’s accreditation incident, major support from the parents and the community diminished. There is a strong belief that the re-instatement of the system’s accreditation and the unity this festival will bring reinforces the commitment made by school system, parents, and the community to enhance the quality of education as well as the quality of life in Clayton County.
The Morrow Community Fall Festival will showcase a mosaic of the very best of rhythms and dances, arts and crafts, exhibits, children activities, and the flavors and aromas of ethnic and international cuisine. The highlight of the festival is the long-awaited Car & Bike Show which will feature a variety of vehicles entered by locals. It will be a fun-filled day of activities, socialization and enjoyment for the residents of Morrow and neighboring cities.

SOA's Event schedule Entry 2: A day committed to job seeking
So today I woke up late, intentionally. I find it really hard to wake up early when I know that I don't have any obligations or commitments to others. So yeah, I woke up around 10:30 then 11:15 and finally got up around 12:00. I spent the time between then and now sifting through all the job postings done by ATL_joblist via twitter, scouting potential jobs via Monster, praying over Craigslist and hoping for the best on Career Builder. And that is what I did that had to do with job seeking, lest I forget my bouts of distraction with Twitter and Facebook plus going through over 100 emails.... (ay yi yi!)
These are the days when my spirits and hopes are high, even though realistically I know that I've been doing this a long time with minimal results. None the less, I remain optimistic as my optimism continues to be tested.
Good news though, I have a couple of photoshoots coming up with some friends. Not that I really want to be a photographer per se, I guess someone just has enough confidence in me to allow me to express my artistic capabilities. [stay tuned for those on the portfolio page]
Other things on my To Do list between today and tomorrow, getting some stuff ready to be sold on eBay. I never would have thought I would have to sell some of my stuff on eBay, but if I'm not using it and someone will buy it so they will then hey....I guess I'm doing my job in the end. I'll be selling some gowns and dresses from my high school days, including a custom prom dress from my junior year, homecoming dress, senior prom dress, and some other goodies. I'll keep you all posted with my direct eBay info so you can stay informed.
I really hope for the best, I've never done it before.

SOA's event schedule Entry 1
Today, I have a meeting with some committee members to help them coordinate a fall festival. It's my job to help promote and publicize the event along with a bevy of other details. It's a little ray of sunshine as I work hard to make SOA Event Concepts, LLC a household name in my community and my state. Building a brand is hard work, but I am ready to accept the task.
I recently had a conversation with a woman at a bridal expo about how important it is for start-up businesses and all businesses to work with their customers and not against them. It's easy for us to be like "you pay me now" but does it always have to be the case? Sure in this world it's all a money game and how much you have, but in reality you catch more flies with honey. Of course it's hard in the beginning but the benefits will be overwhelming in the end.
About the fall festival: The Morrow Fall Festival is a great concept created by some parents from my high school alma mater. It's funny when you are in school, you don't want nothing more than to get out of it. As an adult all you want to do is see your school and community thrive. That's the reason why I joined the organization. I wanted to see the high school that I loved become more than what it is.
It will take place on October 2, 2010 at 10am in the parking lots of Morrow High School and Morrow Middle. For more information, please visit their website here
