Motivational Monday: On Gratitude

Thanksgiving Day is over. We spent the day thinking about all the things we were thankful for whether it be the people in our lives, the blessing and opportunities we have, or the sacrifices we made to be better. But I often wonder, "why must we show gratitude and thanks on only ONE DAY of the year?" What happened to showing gratitude and being gracious on the other 365 days of the year? As I watched my timeline fill with horror stories of Black Friday shopping and gluttonous indulgence, I wondered if those people (me included) thought about gratitude and thanks not even 24 hours after the Day of Thanks...

We should always make a conscious effort to be gracious and show gratitude daily. It can be in the simplest of thank yous or something grand, but we definitely shouldn't allow the gratitude to sit and fester until we think THAT one day is the right time to express it.

EVERY DAY IS A GREAT DAY TO EXPRESS GRATITUDE. As you begin your weeks, shopping for cyber deals, returning to work and school, or recouping...remember show gratitude.

"As each day comes to us refreshed and anew, so does my gratitude renew itself daily. The breaking of the sun over the horizon is my grateful heart dawning upon a blessed world."

The Black Small Business Cyber Weekend Extravaganza

Ahhh..... So you're stuffed like a turkey with turkey. You feel full of joy and happiness after spending time with family. You're warm and fuzzy from being with your loved ones. And then it happens....one of the biggest last minute shopping weekends of the holiday season. Now you get the chance to work off some of that tryptophan, put your aggressive foot forward, and be a cold hard shopping machine.

With the fourth quarter ending, us unemployed entrepreneurs have to take our time and find the best deal. If we're going to spend money on the things we need and the gifts we want, we have to make sure that not only are we getting the best deal but we are getting it at the right time.

So much focus has been given to "black friday" that we forget some of the newest members of the fourth quarter shopping frenzy. Added this year is "Small Business Saturday"
"This year, November 27th is the first ever Small Business Saturday, a day to support the local businesses that create jobs, boost the economy and preserve neighborhoods around the country. Small Business Saturday is a national movement to drive shoppers to local merchants across the U.S. "
Small business Saturday gives merchants the opportunity to not only get some awesome deals on one of a kind items but it also gives you the chance to support your local businesses. Remember that little old lady who owns the antique shop? Now is the chance to really support her and her gorgeous vintage brooches and really interesting finds

Been thinking about getting that new computer, HDTV, or iPod? Cyber Monday is your best bet. After the high of Black Friday has worn off and you've taken a break after Small Business Saturday, it's now time to gear up for Cyber Monday. Places like Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, and Brandsmart are all providing some pretty nice deals on the electronics you want. On Wednesday take the time to map out a good strategy as to what you should get where and when. When you put in the effort to make your holiday purchases a successful one, you'll find that you not only shopped smarter, but you saved a ton of money.

For entrepreneurs, this weekend is a great time to stock up and buy stuff for your office as well as get gifts for your employees. For students, now is the time to buy that computer, school supplies, and gifts for your family without going overboard. And for the unemployed, if you've been saving money all year, whether from odd jobs or unemployment, you'll be rest assured that you can still get your loved one a nice gift without going further into debt.

This holiday weekend, remember shop smarter...not harder with Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday.
